Key programming usually takes 10-15 seconds (for older type CAS modules, software versions before ISTA-P-41) and 8-11 minutes (for newer type CAS modules, software versions ISTA-P-41 and up). 

Newer software versions CAS modules will take longer time to program the keys, but take quicker (10-15 seconds) the next times you try to program new keys or PCF 7936 chips.

After programming the keys (for CAS modules with ISTA-P-41 version and higher), you will need to add the key again in 8-11 minutes, then it will already take 10-15 seconds

“BMW OBD-Prog” is a standalone device for electronic key registration on BMW vehicles (model years 2005-2014).

Supported cars: E60, E65, E66, E70, E71, E81, E82, E87, E88, E90, E91, E92, E93, R54, R56 with key authentication units CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, CAS3+, including SOPT and SOPT+ enabled mode.

SOPT+ protective mode restrains access to data needed for key registration. CAS unit reprogramming is required to bypass protection. “BMW OBD-Prog” allows doing it in automatic mode.
